Requests for SEND Referrals and Assessments

Welton Staff are often approached by parents with requests for assessments and referrals.

The areas that most typically talked about are ADHD, ASD, and Sensory Needs which are often described under an umbrella term of Neurodiversity.

It is very important to approach each child holistically and use this understanding to meet the needs of every child.  The school has a strong understanding of neurodiversity, built on extensive experience and training and can generally meet those needs irrespective of formal assessments. However, we understand that some parents find it helpful to have a formal diagnosis.

Please see below the pathway for accessing the Neurodiversity Front Door Service:

At present, waiting times in school to action a request from parents are approximately half a term. (Other professionals may have more capacity).   During this period, you may find it helpful to explore the resources below which provide useful information and guidance around neurodiversity and supporting children at home.

The full process to action a neurodiversity referral request takes approximately one term in total. This includes the initial waiting period, followed by the time required to complete the necessary observational assessments and associated paperwork.

Towards the end of the waiting list period, our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) will contact you to gather your contributions as part of the referral process.
